Playing Tournaments
Poker Tournaments are different from regular limit poker play.
Most tournaments are no limit games, and if you lose an all in hand,
you are out of the tournament.
The stakes, or blinds, are being constantly raised. This means
that your normal tight play will
not work as well. While waiting for that strong
starting hand, like a pair of pocket Aces or Kings, you will
have lost most of your chips to the blinds. You have to play more
of the marginal hands, and really take advantage of those times
when you have superior position.
You will often be faced with situations where one or more players
are all in before the flop. When more that one person is all in
before the flop, you might be right to fold
a pair of Aces. Especially at the final table. Sometimes the difference
between 10th and 11th place can be a lot of money. This will affect
your play.
Players are constantly being rotated to different tables, as players
bust out. This means your table image might not be as important.
With players rotating in, they might not be aware of your aggressive
table image.
The size of your oponents chip stack has great significance, especially
at the final table. The person with the huge chip stack at the final
table has a great advantage. They don't have to worry about the
blinds, and can play a few more hands without fear of busting out.
If you are on the short stack, however, you must pick your hand,
and go all in hoping to get doubled up.
Texas Hold Em sounds very simple, however, it takes a lot of time
at the table to pick up the nuances of the game. This site was created
to help the average player improve their game. We'll help you with
which starting hands to play,
and how to bet. We'll show you how position
impacts your starting hand selection, how to calculate
pot odds, and wheter to call, raise, or fold. We'll help you
determine your poker strategy.
One that you will use to make more money. We'll even identify
trap hands, which look good, but usually cost you big money.
So... shuffle up and deal!
